Kirk Laird grew up on a local grain farm outside of Kelsey, Alberta. After attending Bawlf School, he pursued a degree in math/physics with a minor in history at Augustana University, where he also played hockey for the Augustana Vikings for four years. Kirk then went on to study law at the University of Alberta.

Since being called to the Bar in 2014, Kirk has been a practicing lawyer at Andreassen Borth, offering a wide range of legal services, including family law, real estate, wills and estates, civil litigation, adoption, and guardianship/trusteeship. Born and raised in Camrose, Jessica Andreassen is proud to be practicing law in her home community. After graduating from Camrose Composite High School, she attended the University of Alberta Augustana campus, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with distinction in 2017.

Diverse Legal Experience and Education

Jessica went on to study law at the University of Alberta, where she kept busy volunteering with Student Legal Services community outreach, interning in Edmonton’s Mental Health Court, playing rugby, and serving as captain of her law school hockey team. During the summers, she gained valuable experience working at Andreassen Borth.

Mentorship and Partnership

After graduating with her Juris Doctor in 2020, Jessica began articling under the guidance of her father, Jim Andreassen, at Andreassen Borth. She was fortunate to learn from and shadow Jim during her summers at the firm, articling year, and first years of practice as an associate lawyer. In 2024, Jessica became a partner of Andreassen Borth alongside Mike Borth and Kirk Laird.

Jessica’s practice focuses on residential, corporate and commercial real estate transactions, wills and estates planning and administration, and general corporate law. She particularly enjoys assisting farm and small business clients with reorganizations, transition and succession planning, as well as guiding families through private adoptions and adult guardianship and trusteeship applications. Jessica believes in building strong relationships with her clients and providing a kind, compassionate approach to her legal work.

Kirk Laird

Small Town Roots and Passion for Defending the Rights of an Accused

Sydney Palmer, J.D., is an associate lawyer who serves clients charged with all criminal and quasi-criminal matters, including SafeRoads. She was born and raised in Killam, Alberta and graduated from the University of Alberta Faculty of Law in 2022. Sydney has worked in criminal and quasi-criminal law for the entirety of her career.

Prior to joining Andreassen Borth, Sydney worked at high-end defence firms in both Edmonton and Calgary with lawyers who have been recognized as Canada’s top criminal defence lawyers.
